Splicing adhesive tapes for repellent/siliconized (anti-adhesive) surfaces
In the paper and film industry, it is always important to make roll goods endless. These adhesive tapes for making endless rolls are also called "splicing adhesive tape", "splicing tape" or "splice adhesive tape". Adhesive tapes coated with rubber or acrylate adhesive are usually sufficient for simple tasks. However, siliconized films or silicone paper cannot be spliced with them. The adhesives mentioned above simply do not adhere sufficiently to these surfaces.
Splicing tapes for use in film and processing
When processing roll material, it is often necessary to splice one material web to the next. This may be necessary in the production of labels, for example, if the roll of self-adhesive paper comes to an end. Or in film processing, when a new roll needs to be attached.
Adhesive tapes can also be used to secure a film or paper web at the start of the roll (i.e. fastening to the roll core) quickly, reliably and securely. Many products that are sold in rolls also require a roll end seal so that the rolls can be transported.
If faults occur during production, the fault can be marked with adhesive tape or labels. The near end of a roll, for example, can also be marked so that automated recording is possible.
CMC Klebetechnik offers suitable and specialized adhesive tapes or detection labels for all production phases.
- Single-sided adhesive tapes for roll start, roll closure and butt splicing
- Double-sided adhesive tapes for the start of the roll, for closing the last winding layer (roll closure) and for overlapping splices
- Transfer adhesive films that enable, for example, unmixed bonding at the start of the roll and with overlapping splices
As we also use splicing tapes in our own production, we know what is important for the different versions. If there is no solution for your specific requirement in our standard range, we will work with you to develop the right solution.
Core attachment bonding, roll start of films, paper webs, roll start bonding
Adhesive tapes for fixing the material webs to paper or plastic cores. The adhesive tape should ensure reliable fixing. Single-sided adhesive tapes can be used to simply and reliably adhere the material web to the core. Double-sided adhesive tapes are also used. They fix the end of the roll to the core and can, for example, mediate between the core material and the roll material (different adhesives). A splittable carrier of the roll start adhesive tape prevents a sudden, heavy tensile load when the roll is used up to the end.
End of roll bonding, end of roll bonding
Rolls of web-shaped products with a repellent surface (e.g. siliconized paper) are difficult to seal. Conventional adhesive tapes adhere poorly to the siliconized surface. The same applies to fluoropolymers, which cannot be sealed with standard acrylate or rubber adhesive tape. For these cases, CMC Klebetechnik supplies single-sided or double-sided adhesive tapes with coatings that adhere well to siliconized surfaces.
Splicing of web material, film, paper, fabric, also siliconized and temperature-loaded
In addition to standard splicing tapes for bonding paper webs, films, fabrics and nonwovens (butt-to-butt splices, overlapping splices), CMC Klebetechnik also supplies specialized versions. These highly temperature-resistant splicing tapes can be used in production processes where heat is applied to the splice. These adhesive tapes have particularly shear-resistant adhesive coatings in order to withstand mechanical tensile loads even at elevated temperatures. Special versions of polyester adhesive tapes with a siliconized backing are available to ensure that this functionality is not interrupted on material webs with repellent surfaces. This means that the anti-adhesive property is also retained at the splice.
Error marking, detection labels
Of course, all adhesive tapes can also be supplied as die-cut parts or labels. It is possible to detect a mark using optical (e.g. silver, red or black), inductive and capacitive (e.g. with aluminum) or thickness-dependent (continuous measuring probe) measuring methods.
Bonding of sensitive or very thin materials
With particularly sensitive materials (e.g. Japanese paper or very thin films), adhesive leaking from the edges at a splice point is very critical. Particularly with tightly wound, large rolls, a winding layer can stick to the next layer in this way. During unwinding, the material layer does not separate from the splicing tape and tears off.
For these cases, CMC klebetechnik offers strip-coated splicing tapes that have an adhesive-free edge. Even at high pressures, no adhesive can squeeze out at the edge and stick to the next layer of material.
Advantages of tapes
Advantages of splicing tapes
- Fast adhesion and high adhesive effect
- minimize downtimes, are quick and easy to handle
- are (depending on the version) highly temperature-resistant (up to over 200°C in the short term)
- are available with different carriers
- are very tear- and tensile-resistant
- Economical to use
- have a high shear strength (depending on the version, even at elevated temperatures)
- also adhere to siliconized and other repellent surfaces
- can have a non-stick (anti-adhesive) backing
- Double-sided adhesive tapes with different adhesives (e.g. strong/weak adhesion)
- splittable construction reduces waste for the user of rolls (splitting adhesive separates from the roll sealing tape when it is pulled off, thus preventing loss of the first layer of wrapping material due to adhesion).
- Clear marking of defects, end of roll or other marking applications

Our adhesive tapes for splicing applications
Polyester films are very tensile and tear-resistant with a low material thickness. They are not very bulky and can withstand high mechanical loads. The width of the splicing tapes depends on the material to be bonded, the tensile stress and the thermal load acting on the splice.
