Polyester films / Polyester adhesive tapes

PET films and PET adhesive tape

Polyester films (PET, polyethylene terephthalate) are regarded worldwide as high-quality engineering films. They combine many positive properties with a favorable price, which is why they are used in a wide range of industries. Polyester films are chemical-, age- and tear-resistant plastic films that can be used in the temperature range between -70 to +150°C. Examples of such applications are voltage-resistant electrical insulation, mechanical or chemical barriers, highly transparent protective films or in the packaging industry as aroma and transport protection.

PET films....

  • offer a very high dielectric strength up to 280kV/mm

  • are available in a wide variety of designs

  • are chemically very stable

  • can be highly transparent (screen films)

  • can be printed and are very gas- or aroma-tight

  • have excellent dimensional stability even at elevated temperatures

  • can be thermoformed or colored

  • can be die-cutted and coated

CMC Klebetechnik mainly stocks Hostaphan® polyester films from Mistubishi and Mylar® polyester films from DuPont. However, Lumirror™ from Toray, for example, can also be offered.

In addition to the cutting of precisely fitting rolls, further processing into die-cut parts and laminates is possible. Customized coatings of the universal polyester films are also possible on two large coating lines.

    Total thickness: 0.038 mm

    - CMC 10081 is a blue polyester adhesive tape with an acrylate adhesive on one side. This adhesive is very weakly adhesive and thus allows the adhesive tape to be removed without leaving any residue. Due to this property, the polyester adhesive tape CMC 10081 is often used as a protective film against mechanical defects (scratches), e.g. on window profiles. The adhesive tape can be removed from many surfaces without leaving any residue, even after exposure to temperature. Request now

    Mylar®

Mylar® is DuPont's trade name for a family of polyester films that become milky opaque with increasing thickness. It offers an excellent combination of electrical as well as chemical, thermal and physical properties. PET films are also inexpensive due to the large volume of film produced.

The polyester film is characterized by excellent resistance to common solvents. Mylar® films can be used at temperatures from -70 °C to 150 °C. Since they do not contain any plasticizers, they do not become brittle when aging under normal conditions. Some grades are particularly UV-resistant and others are now extremely resistant to hydrolysis. Mylar® polyester film can be used permanently up to 130°C (class B according to UL 746C) as insulation in transformers, electric motors and other electrical and electronic equipment. The UL file number is E93687 Mylar® films are available in a wide range of thicknesses. For example, there are 4µm versions used in capacitor manufacturing. In the range between 19µm and 350µm they are stocked as standard by CMC Klebetechnik.

    • Mylar® films offer very high dielectric strength up to 280kV/mm

    • Mylar® films are available in a wide variety of designs

    • Mylar® films are chemically very stable

    • Mylar® films can be highly transparent (screen films)

    • Mylar® films can be printed and are very gas- or aroma-tight

    • Mylar® films have excellent dimensional stability even at elevated temperatures

In order to better meet the specific requirements of the various markets, various special grades have been developed. In recent years, solar energy in particular has demanded an alternative to Tedlar®, which has led to the market launch of Mylar films with excellent UV and hydrolysis resistance.

    • Mylar® A films: this is the standard version of Mylar® PET films with well-balanced mechanical, electrical and chemical properties

    • Mylar® ADS films: a particularly low-shrinkage version of Mylar® A films. Greater dimensional stability up to 150°C temperature application.

    • Mylar® C films: particularly mechanically stable version with excellent electrical properties for capacitor manufacturers

    • Mylar® D films: good coatability and metallizability with slightly matt surface for optimum unwinding behavior

    • Mylar® HS films: a polyester-based shrink film for insulation and packaging purposes (FDA approval available)

    • Mylar® OL films: family of Mylar® films with additional finishing (heat-activated PET layer)

In addition to the types shown, there are many other Mylar® films with special properties. Not every type of film is always available and is procured only on request and in compliance with minimum quantities. Mylar® the registered trade name for polyester film from DuPont.

    Hostaphan®

Hostaphan® is a family of PET films from Mitsubishi. Hostaphan® polyester has exceptionally good properties in terms of mechanical stability, electrical strength, abrasion and heat resistance. The films can be supplied highly transparent or colored, for example, white or black. They have good barrier properties and are chemically very resistant. Hostaphan® films are available in many specific designs.

Hostaphan® films can be used in the temperature range from -70 °C to 150 °C. Since they do not contain any plasticizers, they do not become brittle or fragile when aging under normal conditions.

    • Hostaphan® polyester has excellent electrical insulation properties

    • Hostaphan® polyester can be used as insulation up to 130°C continuous temperature

    • Hostaphan® is used in the printing industry as an aging-resistant, high-quality printing film

    • Hostaphan® polyester can be used as a carrier film for flexible printed circuits

    • Hostaphan® polyester is resistant to fungi and bacteria

    • Hostaphan® polyester is highly resistant to impregnating and potting agents

Biaxially oriented films from Mitsubishi are manufactured in many different versions. Adhesive surfaces, sealable versions or, for example, functionalizing coatings are available in some cases. The films are manufactured within a very narrow tolerance range and some can even be used in the food and medical industries.

    • Hostaphan® RN: the standard polyester film from Mitsubishi

    • Hostaphan® RF: a flame retardant 50µm PET film (UL94 or B1)

    • Hostaphan® RUF: a flame retardant and UV resistant film (19µm)

    • Hostaphan® RUV: particularly UV-stable film

    • Hostaphan® WN: white translucent film

    • Hostaphan® WO: white, opaque film

Not all versions are available from stock and are subject to certain minimum quantities. Hostaphan® RN is normally available from stock in thicknesses of 23µm, 36µm, 50µm, 100µm, 190µm, 250µm and 350µm.
